Center for Trauma Recovery Research Team

The Center for Trauma Recovery (CTR) RESEARCH TEAM began meeting in September 2009 with the purpose of developing connections between students faculty and mental health clinicians and other community members. These connections are central to the development of research projects that use a Community-Based Participatory Research model and that provide answers to questions that are meaningful to the Latino community.

At this stage, the projects are student-driven and focused on theses and dissertations requirements, but we plan to develop program evaluation research and outcome research in the future. The Research Team projects are centered exclusively on the areas of focus of the CTR:

  • Latino mental health
  • Psychological Trauma
  • Integrated approaches to the treatment of trauma (e.g. mind-body, family-centered)

We welcome students, faculty and community members to participate. Meetings take place at Conexiones and The Center for Trauma Recovery, 3500 NE MLK Jr Blvd, second floor. Conference call access is available. Please contact Dr. Wallis (see below) for current meeting dates and times.

The Research Team is guided by the model developed for the Consortium for Latino Mental Health Services, Education and Research. As a result, the CTR’s Research Team is implementing some aspects of the Consortium, and its statement of purpose is:

To advance the knowledge of culturally-specific, trauma-informed treatment while
(1) providing services to the community,
(2) contributing to the development of culturally-competent providers, and
(3) building towards evidence-based interventions for Latinos.
